The use of a special dental tool is required for dental polishing or tooth polishing. For various purposes, the tool may employ various head attachments. A rounded head with an opening to house polishing paste is the most common type of head. On the front and back surfaces of the teeth, rounded cups are used. The top surfaces of the back teeth are cleaned with a bristle brush attachment. Prophy paste is another name for polishing paste. Surface stains on the front and back teeth are removed with dental polishing. However, polishing can also be used to remove plaque. Plaque removal is not the primary goal because a toothbrush and other dental tools remove it as well. It is important to note that polishing aids in the removal of external stains on the tooth. Internal stains on the teeth cannot be removed by polishing. Because young children may not have hardened plaque, dental polishing may be used to remove surface stains and soft plaque deposits. Similarly, dental polishing and regular cleaning tools are sometimes used in tandem.
